Nearly thirty (30) years ago a group of veterans and their friends got together to assist fellow veterans in need from of the Vietnam conflict and to help build the Maryland memorial to remember those (1,046) that did not make it back home. At that time, we thought-just as many others-that there would be no more conflicts involving US troops.

Yet today, we find our men and women in uniform in far away places, defending democracy and making sacrifices. And today we find that returning veterans and their families on occasion do need some type of assistance. The VA, local governments and long established organizations (veteran and non-veterans) do provide help in many ways, but at times it just isn’t enough or provided in a timely manner. Our group does not expect to perform miracles. But we certainly can be in a position to assist many local veterans in a small way when in need of medical, housing or education support.

Accordingly, we are having our second fundraising event (in recent years) on Sunday, October 31 2010, 2-7 PM at the Recher Theater and Rec Room in Towson. (It is a bye date for the Ravens.) We plan a deluxe full menu with Beef and Oysters-including beer and wine. Long time friend of veterans’ causes, Daryl Jr. Cline and the Recliners will be providing music (a benefit performance) in the concert hall with open seating in the adjoining two (2) additional bar and dining areas of the Rec Room. Several noteworthy businesses again will be donating raffle and door prizes. Tickets remain a bargain at $45.00 per. This is total volunteer event. ALL proceeds will benefit Maryland veteran’s causes. We are hoping for and do expect a very early sellout.

We are asking that you subscribe to two tickets for the event, and of course, multiples of four to ten would be considered extraordinarily generous. (Also cash or goods donations in any amount would be appreciated). Checks may be made payable to The Maryland Veterans Foundation, Inc. and for expediency mailed to: 1628 Alston Road, Towson, Maryland 21204.
